Extemporaneous Flight

The poetic wings found in the sculpture NEW FLAME are also the theme of Gabriela's first exhibition in Brussels, EXTEMPORANEOUS FLIGHT. Here, she fills the gallery with artist's books, video projections, drawings and sculptures all of which leads the viewer on a flight of the imagination.

New Flame

A sculpture by Gabriela Gusmão, submitted for the Art Monument Brasil 2016 Prize and conceived by the artist specifically for the public space in the town of Nova Friburgo, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro.

Zurriburi

Just as someone who goes for a walk can bring home an object they find in the street, I set out to read a book in a park and came home with a word I’d found among its pages. The word Zurriburi comes from the story Quevedo, by Jorge Luis Borges, from his book Inquisiciones Otras Inquisiciones.

Metaformosas was first exhibited in September, 2013, in Lisbon at Plataforma Revólver para a Arte Contemporânea and in July 2014, the work was at the group show Intermezzo #1 at MilaKunst, in Berlin.

InContext

Group show of Brasilian Artists – Felipe Moraes, Gabriela Gusmão, Liana Nigri, Patricia Francisco, Renato Maretti. The first edition of InContext art project initiated by Alina Teodorescu has happened in Slanic Moldova, Romania, in July 2017.

Extemporaneous Changes

Where the soft lines meet the hard edges, hexagrams from the classic Chinese Book of Changes are embodied in photography, drawing and sculpture. The symbols reveal the circumstances of life. The three hexagrams that inspire the exhibit, Extemporaneous Changes, were deliberately chosen for this moment in time.
